Who Watches Toddlers and Tiaras? Me!
Anyhoo, Toddlers and Tiaras had it's divalicious Season 3 debut and the standout this week was Mackenzie, as confirmed by numerous internet sources. I watched the entire episode and I don't remember any of the other little girls because Mackenzie is such as superstar. (By superstar I mean horror show.) Just think when Mackenzie grows up and gets to see her "performance" on Toddlers and Tiaras. By that point, she'll probably have sued her parents for her earned pageant money and will have molded all her crowns into one ginormous crown fit for a universal beauty queen pageant.
It's times like this when I wish my parents had "talkie" home movies of me at age 4 cause I would love to compare myself with Miss Mackenzie. Oh, I wasn't in pageants, I just would just like to see if I threw over-the-top temper tantrums.
Now, I have a few questions for Mackenzie's mom and dad (although the dad is more muted than a blade of grass in a Monet painting).
Question 1: Why is Mackenzie so mad at her parents? She's great on stage and that seems to be when she's happiest. Maybe mom and dad should let the pageant circus (is there such a thing?) adopt her and then the performance will never end, thus Mackenzie will be happy!
Question 2: Why is she 4 and still using a pacifier? For saying this I'm probably now going to be cursed with a kid who won't give up the paci until she's ten but still I have to ask. Btw, I love that Mackenzie has her pacifier in her mouth while simultaneously shaking her finger at her mom and telling her "no way!!" about her dress or hair or something. Ha,ha! When she's older, she'll just replace that paci with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth while she rants to her assistant, aka her mother. Speaking of which...
Question 3: Is there tobacco in that pacifier because Mackenzie has the raspy voice of a woman who's smoked for about 50 years. Again, I'm sure I'm dooming myself to a life with a raspy voiced kid but I had to say it.
Final Question: Why does Mackenzie's mom blink so much? Is she trying to blink away her daughter's bad attitude? Sorry Mackenzie's mom, you're not Jeannie or Samantha. Try again.
I'm sure some of you are thinking I'm being way harsh on a four-year-old so I've got some clips to back me up. First up is Mackenzie's introduction and then you get to see her in full diva mode moments before going on stage. Just watch and I'm sure you'll see what I mean.

New Moon: More Like Full Moon as Crazy as Peeps Are Acting
I watched the MTV Movie Awards last week and it was all about Twilight. Peeps are b-a-n-a-n-a-s (thank you Gwen Stefani) for Twilight. I haven't seen people this gaga for fangs and blood since Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were in Interview with a Vampire.
I saw Twilight (not in the theater) and I didn't see what was the big deal. I thought it was OK but not lose my mind good. This trailer for New Moon has me thinking that the second movie might be better than the first.
I've also recently read the first chapters of the Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse on Stephanie Meyer's website. I won't say I'm hooked but certainly interested. I'm putting the series on my reading list anyway.
Has anyone else noticed that US Americans are fools for some vampires lately? True Blood anyone? Or maybe The Vampire Diaries debuting on the C-Dub (CW) this fall? Vampires are so alluring and peeps are "thirsty" for more. Here's hoping we'll be able to sink our teeth into New Moon, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. Those are just terrible jokes.

Hotpocket Defense
However, I would like to have recaps shows and season premiere clearly defined in the future. ABC said to tune in at 8pm EST for the "season premiere event." I did and I got highly disturbed when I realized i was not seeing new material. It was almost as traumatic as the few times when I could not be at home for LOST and had to record on the DVR. I heart my LG TV with built in DVR but it does this thing where sometimes it stops recording about 20 seconds before the show actually ends. This happened a couple of times when I recorded LOST and I nearly had a panic attack. Does anyone realize how important the last 20 seconds are? I also need to see the next week's previews and it would cut that out too. ABC won't post the night's episode online until about 24hrs. later! I have friends in Arizona and I've actually resorted to calling them to find out the ending. I'm quite sure they think I'm a lunatic but out of the kindness of their hearts they've answered the phone and given me the final rundown.
Back to the topic at hand. I posted my favorite scene from last week's episode. Let me preface this by saying that I'm not a huge (no pun intended) Hugo fan but he does provide comic relief on occasion. I don't know why I like this scene so much but I think it's two reasons. One, that Hugo uses a hotpocket to defend himself and two, that Ben doesn't have to even say anything, his look says it all. Here is a very short clip of Ben, Hugo and a hotpocket.

Letterman Takes on The Hills
During this clip of Hills' star Lauren Conrad's recent appearance on David Letterman. Letterman suggests she might be the problem with her troubled BFF relationships. Finally, someone pointed this out. Lauren has been a bit bossy and controlling of her friends' relationships for the last two seasons. What gets me about Lauren is that she's friends with Stephanie Pratt, who yelled at her in a club about being mean to Spencer and Heidi but she can't reconcile her relationship with Heidi? Why can't she hang out with Heidi when Spencer's not around? Why does Spencer spend so much time pontificating how he hates Lauren? I guess because he gets paid $65,000 to do so. Anyway, Lauren does bust out with a funny quip about Spencer during this clip. Ah, it must be nice to be famous for nothing.

Sweet Salaries in The Hills
Lauren alone makes $75,000 per episode and the rest of the cast follows suit. I used to think it'd be great to make $75,000 in a year. That's a decent salary! But $75,000 per episdode? Per Episode? Blood may come shooting out of my eyeballs! (to borrow a phrase from Glenn Beck)
Do they pay Lauren by how many times she paints her nails? Whitney by each facial expression and OMG? Spencer every time he offers a snide remark or by the length of his flesh colored beard? The Soup video below may prove both enligtening and entertaining on this point.
Lauren Conrad: $75,000 / episode
Heidi Montag: $65,000 / episode
Spencer Pratt: $65,000 / episode
Audrina Patridge: $35,000 / episode
Whitney Port: $20,000 / episode
Brody Jenner: $10,000 / episode
Lauren “Lo” Bosworth: $10,000 / episode
Stephanie Pratt: $8,000 / episode

LC and Heidi Hug It Out-Courtesy of Extra
You can read the reports for yourselves peeps. I only have one question: is this going to be the season finale of The Hills?
Source, Source
Whitney and The City
On Whitney's show we'll view her life as she works for Diane von Furstenberg, dates boys and contorts her face into countless over-expressions. Hooray! I'm glad for Whitney and her new show. Of all the pretentious prissies on The Hills, she seems to be the most sensible and appears to actually work for a living. Imagine!
Whitney promises that her show will be very unique. Very unique? Sheesh, somebody get this girl an AP Stylebook. Well, I guess I forgive her even though very unique is my pet peeve #129.
Good luck, Whitney! See you in the Big Apple!
P.S. Watch out for Olivia, I can tell by the preview that she looks shady already.

Going Against the Brand
I settled in to watch the MTV VMA's back on September 7. I figured I was in for a good show based on the commercials I'd seen with Russell Brand and Britney Spears. Unfortunately, I was fuming about 10 minutes into the show. Brand got on stage to introduce the show and he immediately began making political comments. He asked America to vote for Obama on behalf of the world and then called President Bush a "retarded cowboy." He said it was nice of America to elect a retarded cowboy because in England, he wouldn't have been trusted with a pair of scissors.
I have four problems with his statements. First, I'm thoroughly sick of celebrities using awards ceremonies to make political statements. Why can't they do that at an actual political rally if they support the candidate? I don't tune in to awards shows to find out the political leanings of stars; I want to know who wins what award. Although I'm sure many celebrities would think or say otherwise, I don't believe they are any more politically savvy than I am or have more information than I do. I certainly don't support a political candidate just because of celebrity endorsement. So why do they go around to every awards show and trumpet their endorsement of some candidate or bash the current President?
I think political satire is perfectly acceptable and enjoyable in the right situations. Take SNL for example. Some of the most talented acting and writing took place during political skits. I enjoy it whether they're making fun of Republicans, Democrats or everything in between. It's funny! But SNL is a platform for that type of comedy.
My second problem is that Brand used the word retarded as an insult. Obviously if he's using it as a joke to insult the President, he believes that there is something insult worthy of people with diminished mental capacity. I have a real problem with this. I'm not the type to get all "politically correct" but I do retain a measure of compassion and respect for people with mental disabilities and the people who care for them. Brand sounds like the playground bully that everyone hates but doesn't know how to stand up to. I sat on my couch and watched in disgust as people in the audience cheered at his comments. Did they listen or did they just hear Bush's name and instinctively laugh because that's what the media and celebrities instruct them to do in such situations?
Does anyone realize that the only time it is politically correct to call someone retarded is when you're referring to the President? That would not pass in everyday normal life. A five year old could tell you that calling someone retarded is mean because if you're using it any any capacity other than medical terms, it's an insult. So, why is it suddenly okay for Brand to say it?
This brings me to my third point. Does anyone have respect for the President of the United States anymore? I'm not talking about George W. Bush, I am talking about the person elected to and holding the Office of the President of the United States. There are former Presidents that I don't particularly care for but if I were on TV, I would not make derogatory comments about their character. I think if you don't respect the President as a person, you can at least respect the Office. There are certain things you just don't say to or about the President. Calling him a retarded cowboy is one of them. Brand should have been booed off the stage but instead the audience laughed and clapped. It's an insult to our country. Even if you don't like Bush, you should still stick up for the Office of the President and nobody did.
I believe that Americans have the right to criticize the President, the Administration and the Government in general. That is our right and privilege and I'm proud to live in a country that allows freedom of expression without fear of repercussions. However, I do believe that if you're going to criticize, you should be able back up your arguments and specifically comment on policy decisions and action as opposed to the actual person. Calling the President a retarded cowboy is ridiculous! There is absolutely no decency in that comment. If you don't like that Bush is President, give examples of policy decisions you don't agree with. Oh, but I guess that wouldn't render a giggle from the Hollywood crowd.
Lastly, what gives Brand the right to come to this country and criticize our President and give an endorsement to a presidential candidate? His opinion doesn't matter. He is not from this country and is not permanently residing in this country. I know this sounds xenophobic of me, but I just don't feel that a foreigner has the right to tell Americans who we should vote for or make jokes about our President. Where's the sense of indignation? Is there no pride in our country anymore? I believe that if an American Citizen/Celebrity went to another country and bashed their leader, there would be outrage and a public apology would be demanded.
I changed the channel after Brand's intro and watching Brit Brit get her first award. I know MTV doesn't care, but I just felt like I could not in good conscience continue watching. His comments were repugnant from all stand points. He made fun of our President and insulted those with mental disabilities. I'm incensed by the whole introduction performance. I know my post won't make a difference in the grand scheme of things but I feel like writing my opinion about this was the right thing to do. Thanks for your indulgence.

Jessie Spano Caffeine Pill Freakout!
OK, a friend of mine emailed me this clip over a month ago and I meant to post it immediately since it is my favorite clip of all time from Saved by the Bell. Somehow it just slipped my mind. I was actually reminded of it today as I went through my morning routine of watching Saved by the Bell while I ate breakfast. This morning's episode was the one where they struck oil at Bayside. The school was going to get lots of funding from the oil and everyone was super psyched about it, except Jessie. But then tragedy struck in the form of an oil spill in the school pond. The school pets were covered in oil and died. I know; it really was sad. So the kids protested and demanded alternative energy sources. Sounds like today's mantra. Could Saved by the Bell have held the key to the energy crisis back in the 90’s? The world may never know.
Josh's TV Medley
I missed the Emmys last night but I imagine this was the best part. Any man that can sing the TV show theme songs this well wins my heart. :)

The Hills Are Alive
So on tonight's premiere, Lauren threw Audrina a B-day party for which Lo basically remained MIA. Lauren was stressed playing hostess by herself and lamented her concerns to her date, Doug. Lauren convinced Lo to chat with Audrina and the talk was quite painful. Basically, Audrina is fine with the fact that she and Lo will never really be friends and she stated it quite bluntly to Lo. I feel like Lauren definitely tries to make Audrina feel welcome and Lo may be a bit jealous of Lauren and Audrina's friendship.
The drama continued with Spencer and Heidi as Heidi's sister arrived to stay for a few days. Spencer is not fond of anyone invading his space or taking away from his time with Heidi. This just means that he was his usual charming self in the way that Lucifer might be charming. As Heidi's sister was leaving, she mentioned moving to Cali permanently. Heidi thought it was great, Spencer smirked and pouted.
So here are my favorite quotes from this episode:
Audrina: "Lo is super b**chy."
Spencer: "My middle name is nice."
Lauren: "The type of drink you order says a lot about you." This was right after she ordered a Fuzzy Dragon. I have no idea what a Fuzzy Dragon is, I figure it's some variation of a Fuzzy Navel. Anyway, her quote sounds like some sort of Chinese Proverb with a Valley Girl twist.
Lo: "Well, we'll just enjoy the company that comes." Lo said this to Audrina during her B-day party regarding the friends Audrina chose to invite.
Seven days until the next episode and I'm already jonesin' for my next dose of DRAMA. To check out more info on The Hills and watch full episodes, click here.

TV Wasteland to Wonderland
I'm most excited about New York Goes to Hollywood. Tiffany Pollard, aka New York stars in another VH1 reality installment. Apparently New York wants to become a legitimate actress and the cameras are following along in pursuit of her dream. My true feelings about New York really can't be written. She's simultaneously horrible and delightful to watch. Her behavior would not be acceptable under normal circumstances and I'm sure she plays to the camera but she really does know how to make a show entertaining. I completely tuned out of Flavor of Love 3, simply because she wasn't on the show. If Shakespeare and Jerry Springer got together, I'm not sure they could write/script/produce/televise drama that good or trashy! I just loved her freakout moments where she would totally cuss someone out and then it would cut to her puffing on a cigarette and pretending to act dainty.
I Love Money will feature contestants from past seasons of Flavor of Love, I Love New York and Rock of Love, in which the common goal will be winning $250,000. It looks hilarious, sort of like a Beverly Hills version of Survivor but with less class and zero intelligence!
I don't have much to say about Brooke Knows Best 'cause I'm not really sure what Brooke knows. I think this is just a sick way for VH1 and all of America to eavesdrop on her family's dysfunction junction. I'll still tune in for at least an episode or two. We'll see what happens.
That's the July preview, peeps! I hope these new shows don't disappoint. Stay tuned!

Mike Myers hosted and his funniest bit during the show was a Wayne's World skit in which Dana Carvey actually made an appearance. During the entire show, the camera focused on Rhianna and Chris Brown for a reaction after each award. I was beginning to think they were the only celebrities in the entire crowd. I really don't know what was up with that. There was a commercial featuring Speidi for what looked like a new music video show on MTV debuting June 13th. I couldn't find any links to the show on the MTV website but did find this. F'N MTV, wink wink. Oh MTV, you make me laugh! :)

There's No Place Like Lost
There’s a lot to cover from Thursday's season finale of Lost. I thought it was a hit! I was really pleased that ABC actually had a 2 hour episode. I usually get my hopes up and then feel jipped because the 1st hour is recaps or a previous episode. But ABC got it right and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole show. For those of you who haven’t seen the episode yet, I highly recommend going to ABC to watch it online. Otherwise, here goes the recap.
I thought it was brilliant to open the episode at the same spot it ended in Season 3. Through Jack and Kate’s argument, we learn that Jeremy Bentham is the person in the coffin. Now I actually found this quite distracting because for the remaining hour and 54 minutes, I tried to figure out who this Jeremy Bentham character was. Seriously, I Googled the name during the commercials. In my web surfing hunt, I did find something about the real Jeremy Bentham that I should have remembered from my college economics class.
Jack, Sawyer and Hugo make it to the Orchid and find Locke. Jack and Locke have a confrontation where Locke asks Jack to stay on the island because it’s his destiny. The conversation between Locke and Jack reminded me a lot of the Man of Science, Man of Faith episode; Locke believes in miracles, Jack doesn’t. Locke tells Jack if he gets off the island he’ll have to lie.
In the meantime, Kate and Sayid strike a deal with the others to save Ben from Keemy and his crew in exchange for freedom. The plan works and Keemy’s team goes down just after hearing some familiar whispering. Keemy survives after taking a beating from Sayid and then getting shot in the back by Richard.
Ben goes back to the Orchid to give Locke his final instructions. While he busies himself about the station, Locke watches another Orientation tape complete with time traveling bunnies. Keemy pays them a visit and reveals that he is wired to the bomb on the boat and if his heart stops, boom! Ben didn’t give a flip about the people on the boat and went after Keemy full force, ultimately killing him.
Meanwhile Daniel is still ferrying people from shore to ship and he asks Miles and Charlotte to join him on the next boat ride. Miles declines immediately while Charlotte accepts but she changes her mind and decides to stay after Miles questions her reasons for leaving.
Back on the boat Michael, Jin and Desmond frantically try to deactivate the bomb. Michael comes up with the idea of freezing it with liquid Nitrogen as a temporary solution. They have no idea what triggers the bomb and when Keemy dies, their time is up and they try to evacuate the ship. While all the action is going to on the ship, Hugo, Kate, Jack, Sawyer, Sayid, Sun, Aaron and Frank are in the helicopter on the way to the ship. The helicopter gets a fuel leak and Sawyer jumps into the ocean to make it lighter and conserve fuel. Thankfully, he was able to swim back to the island, just in time to meet up with Juliet who was drinking rum and lamenting the ship explosion.
The Oceanic 6, Frank and Desmond are safely on the helicopter when the ship explodes. Michael stays below to continue freezing the bomb battery and Christian Shephard appears to him just before the explosion. Jin makes it to the deck but it was too late. Sun watches Jin die and goes into hysterics. It was quite dramatic and actually got me choked up.
Back on the island, Ben gives Locke some final instructions and then says goodbye. He tells him to go meet Richard and the others who would be ready, willing and able to follow him. Ben goes through a tunnel created when he blew up the “time traveling cubby” (that’s what I’m calling it anyway) and goes down to a cold cavern with a wheel. After quite an effort, he cranks the wheel and there’s a bright light and…POOF! The island disappears.
The helicopter is on the way back to the island when it “moves” and they end up crashing in the ocean when the fuel runs out. They’re all in an inflatable raft when they spot Penny’s boat and signal for rescue. At that point, Jack tells them all they need to lie since it’s apparent someone wants the world to believe they’re dead. Once they get near the ship, Desmond recognizes Penny and the two are reunited. One week later, the group has devised a plan to sail to the island of Membata on the life raft and give a convincing survivor spiel to the world.
The scene then flashes forward to Jack again as he heads toward the funeral parlor. Ben comes in behind him as he’s starring at the body of Jeremy Bentham. They chat briefly and Ben tells Jack that they all have to come back to the island and he has a few ideas on how to help. Jack turns to leave with him and Ben tells him they have to bring Jeremy Bentham too. Then we finally get a shot of the body in the coffin and it is…wait for it…John Locke!
The flash-forwards from this episode feature all the Oceanic 6 in one way or another and we learn some interesting things. Hugo is still in the mental institute and he gets a visit from the new puberty version of Walt. Walt tells Hugo that Jeremy Bentham came to see him and questions why they’re all lying. Sayid visits Hugo at the mental institute while Hugo is playing chess with Mr. Echo (invisible to everyone except Hugo). Sun goes to London to meet with Charles Widmore. Kate has a dream where Claire tells her not to bring Aaron back to the island. Then of course there’s Jack’s visit with Ben.
I really liked the throwbacks to old episodes with the whispers and the orientation video but two things did bother me about the episode. I thought it was ridiculous the way Jin died. When I saw the bomb in the last episode I figured that would be how he’d meet his end but why was he so stupid? Hello! Bomb alert Jin! You may want to jump in the water if you can’t get on the helicopter or I don’t know, maybe you shouldn’t have hung out with Michael until the last second. Perhaps he’s coming back though, you never know with Lost. Supposedly dead people tend to resurface. One person that’s not coming back is Michael. Harrold Perrineau confirmed that in an interview following the finale. It’s kind of disappointing because I thought there were more things that could be done with his character. But that is not the other thing that bothered me. What I could not get over was Aaron. He must be Super Baby! When exactly was the last time that kid ate? Claire’s not with him and I didn’t see any bottles of formula around. He survives a helicopter crash into the ocean without a scratch and he barely whimpers the entire time. Maintenance free babies? Sign me up please!
Still, the episode was awesome and if left me craving more Lost. I have tons of questions to ponder for next season. I’m just going to prattle them off and hope ya’ll will leave some insightful comments.
Where did the island go? What bad things happened after the Oceanic 6 leave and why is it so important for them to go back? What happened to the people in the boat with Daniel Faraday? Why is the person who moves the island banished from it? What did Sawyer whisper to Kate? Why did Charlotte spend so much time trying to get back to the island and then tell Daniel she was still trying to find where she was born? What are Sun and Charles Widmore’s common interests? Is Sun planning to do business with Widmore to counter Ben? Does Sun really blame Jack for the death of Jin or is that just what he believes? Does Locke not remember Richard coming to test him when he was a kid? How does Locke get off the island to go see the Oceanic 6? How does Locke get the name Jeremy Bentham? Is the negatively charged exotic matter the smoke monster? Is the Casimir Effect what allows the island to move?
We have until February 2009 to brood over these questions and more!
